FAQs

Outback Concepts

  • What sizes can you get for motorized retractable screens?

Our retractable screens at Outback Concepts are made to fit your specific opening dimensions. Screen widths range from four feet up to 30 feet wide. Height can be customized as needed, though openings exceeding 10 feet in height will feature a visible seam. Contact Outback Concepts today to discuss your screen size requirements. We also provide manual shades ranging from four feet to 12 feet wide.
  • What kind of power is needed for motorized retractable screens?

Each motorized screen draws one amp of power. We usually route all electrical cords through the attic to ensure a clean, professional installation without visible wiring. If your home has existing soffit outlets, we can utilize those connections, though a short section of cord may be visible. Your outlet should provide constant power and should not be controlled by a switch. For reference, two screens need one standard 110-volt outlet, while four screens require a double-gang 110-volt outlet.
  • What is the number on the fabric?

The number displayed on the fabric indicates the percentage of UV rays it blocks. For instance, Carbon 95 means the fabric color is Carbon and it provides 95% UV protection. We commonly offer 90% and 95% protection levels. If sun protection isn't a priority, we provide No-See-Um and Tuff Screen options, which are designed specifically for insect protection.
  • Do retractable screens come with remotes?

Yes, remotes are included with all enclosed patio systems and come in white. We offer one-channel, five-channel, and 16-channel remote options. Wall-mounted switch remotes are also available in both single-channel and multi-channel configurations, offered in black or white finishes.
  • Will these screens keep the heat in?

Yes, these retractable screens provide excellent temperature control. Our screens make year-round patio use comfortable and enjoyable. During warmer months, ceiling fans help circulate air, while propane fire pits provide warmth in winter. We also supply and professionally install patio heaters. For west-facing patios that experience intense sun and limited airflow during hot summer days, we offer 97% UV protection screens. These are also ideal if you primarily use your patio during cooler months.
  • What is the average cost for screens? Does the thickness of the screen factor into the cost?

Our team reports that the typical cost averages approximately $5,000 for a 10 to 12-foot opening. The fabric thickness does influence pricing, so we encourage you to ask about our different tier options. This investment delivers significant returns. According to Extra Space Storage, an online storage authority, a well-designed patio can increase your home's value by 8% to 10%. Contact Outback Concepts today for detailed pricing information.
  • What is the wind rating?

We offer two wind resistance options. Option 1: Universal Screens are rated for winds up to 60 MPH. We recommend retracting these screens when wind speeds exceed 40 MPH to protect your investment. Option 2: ASI screens withstand wind speeds up to 115 MPH and are designed to remain deployed year-round. Both options provide excellent performance—your choice depends on your specific requirements. Proper care ensures your screens will last for many years.
  • How long does installation take?

We generally complete installation of three screens in one day. Call Outback Concepts today to learn more about your specific installation timeline. We're happy to provide a complimentary estimate to get your project started.
  • How do these screens withstand animals or intruders?

Our retractable screens are constructed from durable fabric material. While they can be cut, doing so requires considerable time and effort. A dog or child could potentially run through the screen, but this would require significant force to cause damage. We have not experienced any instances where screens needed replacement due to damage from children or individuals.
  • What is the warranty information?

Outback Concepts provides the following manufacturer warranties: five years on Somfy motors, ten years on Phifer fabric, and 15 years on Twichell fabric. The housing, hood, weight bar, and side tracks carry a lifetime warranty against fading and rust. These components are powder-coated rather than painted for superior durability. Outback Concepts also provides a two-year labor warranty.
  • How much is the deposit?

On all retractable screen projects, other projects, such as pergolas and patio covers, will have 25% deposit followed by a progress payment once materials are delivered.
